There is no better time to learn a second language than as a child. Our world is rapidly becoming a place where speaking only one language is a thing of the past. Schools across our state offer programs to teach Spanish, but sitting in a classroom for a few hours every week just isn’t enough—children have to live a language to learn a language. Some people leave the country to find Spanish experiences in language schools in Mexico and Central America, but why go so far away when there are so many Spanish speakers here in Santa Barbara?
At Somos Amigos we will immerse your child in Spanish. Our teachers teach and interact with the students in Spanish. Your child will learn and play with fluent Spanish speakers, responsible and friendly students from César Chávez Charter School, a Santa Barbara bilingual school. Your child will learn about Spanish-speaking cultures from all over the world—food, traditions, music, and people. Experienced and credentialed bilingual teachers will lead fun “summer-camp” activities. At Somos Amigos children will learn, speak, read, write, sing, and even play in Spanish. There’s no better way for your child to learn Spanish in Santa Barbara.
Our classes are small and well-staffed. Our location at Westmont College provides a pristine learning environment in the hills of Montecito, along with fun facilities like the college swimming pool and computer lab.
At Somos Amigos we offer four one-week camp sessions. Students from ages 5-13 are welcome and will be placed in age-level camp groupings with age-level appropriate learning material and teaching. Students will be dropped off at Reynolds Hall on the Westmont campus at 8:30 AM, and picked up at 12:30 PM. Childcare will be available from 12:30-2:30 for an additional fee of $50/week on the registration page of this website. A snack will be provided daily.
